Features

Since laying cables in industrial applications can cost up to 50 euros per meter, wireless solutions offer significant potential for cost savings. Aion considerably reduces investment costs and accelerates digitalization in automation and process industries.
The Profile of Aion

The Aion mioty® IO-Link Adapter is directly connected to standardized IO-Link sensors and actuators. It captures process, diagnostic, and other parameters from the sensors and transmits them wirelessly via the mioty® protocol, which is specifically designed for industrial applications. This ensures maximum robustness against interference, even in industrial environments with high radio frequency congestion.
The wireless data is then received by a mioty® base station, which forwards it to industrial control systems, SCADA platforms, cloud-based analytics services, or edge computing environments. Thanks to standardized and open cloud decoding, the adapter can be easily integrated into existing OT and IT infrastructures. AION supports both local and cloud-based applications.

AION combines the IO-Link standard with long-range communication technology, ensuring extended range and strong signal penetration.
API Integration
AION data can be seamlessly integrated into existing SCADA, ERP, and third-party systems, with no lock-in effect.
What is IO-Link?
IO-Link is a standardized communication protocol used in automation technology. It enables communication between a control system (such as a PLC) and intelligent field devices like sensors, actuators, or other peripheral devices. IO-Link provides a point-to-point connection via a serial interface and allows bidirectional communication between the devices.
Simple Wiring: IO-Link uses a standard 3-wire cable (Power, Output, and Signal), simplifying the wiring compared to other industrial standards.
Plug & Play: Devices that support IO-Link can be easily integrated into the network without additional configuration or parameter programming.
Diagnostics and Parameter Access: IO-Link enables detailed diagnostics and remote monitoring of connected devices. Parameters and configurations can be easily set and monitored through the control system or an engineering tool.
Integration of Non-Smart Devices: With IO-Link, even "dumb" devices (those without their own intelligence) can be integrated into a system by connecting them to an IO-Link master.
IO-Link is used in various areas of automation technology and industry to optimize communication between field devices and controllers.
mioty® – Next generation LPWAN
mioty® is an innovative wireless technology specifically developed for reliable and long-range communication in industrial environments. What makes it particularly unique is its method of packet splitting. Instead of transmitting entire messages at once, mioty® breaks them down into smaller pieces and transmits these across different frequencies. This ensures stable transmission even in the presence of interference – even if individual fragments are lost, the message can be easily reconstructed.
Long Range
mioty® can communicate over long distances, making it ideal for applications in rural areas or large industrial facilities. It can cover distances of up to 15 km in urban areas and over 100 km in rural areas, depending on the conditions and infrastructure.
Scalability
The protocol is designed for use in networks with millions of devices. It can effortlessly manage thousands to millions of IoT devices without compromising network performance. This is especially crucial in scenarios such as Smart Cities or large-scale industrial applications.
Low power consumtion
mioty® uses highly energy-efficient communication. Devices that support mioty® have a long lifespan – often lasting several years with a single battery. This is crucial for IoT devices that are often installed in hard-to-reach locations and require minimal maintenance.
Roboustness and reliability
mioty® uses telegram-based communication and employs a special modulation technique called DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum), which is particularly robust against disturbances and interference. This ensures high reliability, even in challenging environments with numerous sources of interference.
Security
mioty® is designed to meet high security requirements. It offers end-to-end encryption, device authentication, and can be protected against unauthorized access. These security features are especially important when it comes to transmitting sensitive data.
Cost-Effective
Since mioty® works with simpler, cost-effective devices and sensors, it is an affordable solution for large IoT installations. It does not require expensive infrastructure components, allowing for a cost-effective implementation even with a very large number of devices.
Other LPWAN Technologies
The following image diagram shows a linear transmission, where the entire telegram (data packet) is sent as a single unit. If the signal is disrupted or part of the data is lost, the entire telegram may become unusable. The fault tolerance is low, as interference on a specific frequency can cause the entire message to fail to reach its destination.

mioty® Technology
mioty® uses the telegram splitting method. In this process, the entire data packet is broken down into small subpackets, which are transmitted across different frequencies At the receiver, the subpackets are reassembled, even if some are missing. This makes mioty® more robust against interference and allows a higher number of devices per gateway.
